Enlisted U.S. Navy in home town of Des Moines, Iowa.. Reported to San Diego, California for boot camp May, 1953. Upon completion of boot camp I attended class “A” Interior Communications (IC) Electrician school in San Diego. After completion of IC school, I reported to New London, Connecticut for Enlisted Men’s Submarine School. Graduated submarine school in March, 1954 and returned to San Diego where I reported aboard the USS Queenfish SS393 as an IC striker. After being aboard the Queenfish a couple of months, we took her to the shipyard at Hunter’s Point in San Francisco for overhaul. Retuned to San Diego after yard overhaul and received my “Qualification Dolphins” in October, 1954. During the early part of 1957 the Queenfish entered the Mare Island shipyard at Vallejo, California. I was discharged from the Navy at Treasure Island, California as an IC2(SS) May, 1957.
After discharge from Navy, attended school for two years in Kansas City, Missouri. Met my future wife Sallie while attending school. Hired on with the IBM Corporation in September, 1959. Married Sallie August, 1960. We have four children and eight grandchildren. After eleven locations and a 32 year career, I retired from IBM June 1991. Moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas September 1992 where we are enjoying retirement. Present occupation is golf bum.
